This website is back online. It’s host computer was packed in a box and in storage for a few weeks. I was worried it wouldn’t survive that adventure, but it seems to have done well.
Moving is a pain. We saved some trouble by paying movers to pack all the boxes, load the truck, drive it to our new house, unload the truck, and even set up our beds for us, but there is still a lot of unpacking and arranging to do. Things just don’t quite fit in the new house the same way they did in the old house. As we open each box and are often surprised by what we find, I’ve realized that we have never combed through all of our possessions with this much scrutiny before. It really slows down the process when you stop and examine each item in the box, get surprised that you still own it, wonder whether you should still own it, and then wonder how much you paid the movers to pack up and haul that item 780 miles to Utah. Like that old bag of tortilla chips that was packed inside one of our pots. Or the box of cassette tapes from our high school (middle school?) days. I don’t think we even have a working tape player. Or maybe I just haven’t unpacked that box yet.
It went a lot faster when some ward members came over and helped unpack our kitchen and most of our office. They just threw things on shelves and in cabinets, and Ily and I didn’t have to handle each thing and have all those thoughts triggered. Since then I’ve tried to act like it’s not my stuff while I’m unpacking and things go much quicker, but it’s really hard.
Maybe moving isn’t so much of a pain. Stuff is a pain. I really like a lot of our stuff, though. Can you pay someone to sort your stuff and get rid of things you really don’t need?
