In the last month we have discussed lots of ideas for Halloween Costumes at our house as I am sure lots of you have done also. Reece can give us no opinions on his costume other than after I put it on him, he might scream to get out. Micah and Isaac have lots of opinions however. Isaac wants to be a “Star Wars guy” really bad. Which one it is changes daily. I figure I will just let him wear a generic Jedi outfit and he can change who he is ever few minutes if he likes. Micah for a long time was adamant about being a tornado. Hmmmm, how would I make that costume?
The funniest thing overheard tonight was Isaac saying “I want to be Obi-wan” and Micah replying that he wants to be “Obi-two.” At least he no longer wants to be a tornado!

I got bored this afternoon and started playing with our Christmas wish lists that we keep on the website. I love asking the boys what they want to put on their lists. If I start with Isaac, then he gives me a super huge list, one that never ends and always involves Star Wars paraphernalia. When I talk with Micah, then he gives me an answer like this: “ I want a tornado.” Sometimes he wants everything Isaac wants too. Reece, who still talks in babbles and is just barely getting used to the idea that words mean something, obviously doesn’t give me much to work with. I think he wants anything that is forbidden to him, and he wants it with a passion!
On the top of our family wish list this year is a desire for a new van. This Dodge Grand Caravan of ours is very disappointing. We just got a new transmission in it. That was much cheaper than a new van we figured. And we fixed the glove box that would shoot springs at you if you opened it and it now stays closed too. We even fixed the huge dent in it this year from when someone hit us in a parking lot and didn’t leave us any info (may I mention that this was 2 weeks after we paid it off?). We still haven’t fixed the drivers’ seat which is stuck in the most upright position and the handle broke off so now we can’t change the position ever until we take it in to the dealer to get it fixed.
Aside from that, we thought we could live with the few minor problems it might have left now that it has a new transmission. But I kid you not, two weeks after fixing the transmission, the passenger side sliding door breaks. Bryan and his super human strength (ok, so he is not really that strong) tried to close it from the inside and the whole inside panel of the door came loose from the outer portion of the door. It now no longer has a way to open it from the inside. We are continuing with our trend of having something go wrong with it each month. Moral of the story: DON“T BUY A DODGE...or Chrysler…or Plymouth. I need to write the company and complain about their shoddy workmanship and tell them that I will be telling everyone I know to not buy one of their products. We haven’t even reached 100K miles on this vehicle. It is only 7 years old! Isaac is 7. He is holding up better than our van.

We actually made it through all 8 hours of the LDS General Conference without falling asleep, for long at least. Bryan dozed during Priesthood, and I only missed a few minutes of one talk due to sleepiness during the Sunday morning session. Overall, it was a great experience and the kids even survived!
We had a return of the Conference Fairy (CF) this time. We started a tradition a few years back to have the CF bring quiet toys and activities to the kids when they were being well-behaved and reverent. It has worked really well in the past. Lately though, I have been getting cheaper with my CF gifts because it was getting too expensive to give a new gift after each session. So last conference I moved to a simpler fare and had Rootbeer as a CF treat for one session and some other little things too. This time the CF brought a new puzzle (argh, it was hard!) and some candy and Popsicles. Isaac has definitely figured out the conference fairy is getting on tighter budget and he had some concerns about it. He was expecting new toys this time. After the first session when no cool toys just for him showed up, just a puzzle for us all, he got a little ornery and he had a hard time being reverent after that. I guess that shows that bribery works… Sigh, I might have created a monster. He was still pretty good, but practicing piano when you are bored during conference does not constitute a behavior that is acceptable in our house! Especially since the piano is in the same room that our TV is in. At least he was practicing “Scripture Power.”
Things we did to stay awake during conference:
I feel lucky that we were able to participate in the Saturday sessions this conference. I really felt the warm glow of the spirit especially during those two sessions. I feel like Saturdays have been the better sessions for me lately (maybe it is because the boys have had it by Sunday and so they are more wiggly…).
The spiritual highlight of the whole conference for me was when Elder Wirthlin spoke. The tv station who covers conference for us really does a poor job and we got to watch a public meeting at a fire station and yet hear conference for a while and I thought they were messing up the broadcast again somehow when Elder Wirthlin’s voice started shaking. Then I saw his whole frame started shaking and yet he refused to sit down until he completed his remarks. I had tears in my eyes as Elder Nelson came up next to him to help support him so he could finish. And he didn’t finish early, he kept going. His words were so powerful to me. His testimony of the gospel burned into my heart as I saw this frail old man who is 90 struggle to stand and refuse to finish until he had said all that his heart contained. The gospel means so much to him and it made me ponder to what lengths I would go to in order to bear my testimony? i can’t even describe how I felt after his talk, it was just amazing.

This is old news, but we just discovered it ourselves. Since it took us web savvy bloggers that long to discover it, we still feel safe in reporting on it to you, our loyal readers this late in the game. It’s an important story. Benj’s affinities for pop tarts are changing (scroll down to the bottom of the page). Or, at least they were back in May of this year.
So in web 2.0 fashion, Benj, here’s some (belated) linkage to your important blog entry. Now, what’s the update on this new development in your culinary appetites? Myself, I quite like strawberry.
