Calling All Family

Ily, always planning ahead, is already thinking about the upcoming holidays. Specifically, Christmas, and how we all start asking each other, “What do you want for Christmas?” and then respectively replying, “I don’t know, I haven’t really thought about it.” What can we do to make this gift giving season easier?

Well, Ily had an idea, inspired by lloydlings.net, to have us all post a wish list on this website. What does everyone think? I’ll have to rig up a way for everyone to log on and post their list, but it shouldn’t be that hard. Reply to this with a comment and let me know what you think.

Jason Lloyd

We all went over to see Melinda and her new baby tonight and he is just beautiful. A real cutie. They picked the name Jason before he was born and actually stuck with it. Each time we have picked a name beforehand, we have chucked it. That must be why we never tell people what name we chose because we know we won’t keep it!

Anyhow, mom and baby are doing well. I am so excited that Jason and Reece get to grow up together. Jason may weigh a little less now than Reece, but I think he will most definitely pass him by soon. Jason’s hands are already bigger! I forgot to take a picture of him so you will just have to trust us that he is a good looking kid!

I am an Auntie!

Melinda had her baby yesterday! A little boy, 9 lbs 2 oz, and we haven’t seen him yet, but we hear he looks like his daddy, Benj. I bet Melinda is glad that pregnancy is over! Now the real hard part begins.

Lacamas Park Hike

Today was so darn sunny and beautiful that we just had to go for a hike. We went to nearby Lacamas Park and hiked to Lower Falls. We’ve done it a million times, but it’s always nice. The kids love finding the little sign posts with numbers of them that mark points of interest, it’s like a scavenger hunt for them.

I’ve been intrigued by this new website called ActiveTrails, so we brought our GPS along and recorded our track. After finding some free software that talks to my gps on Linux it was pretty easy to save the track data and upload it to ActiveTrails (you have to register with the site before you can upload). They let you do some simple editing of the trail, since sometimes the GPS loses signal and puts seemingly random, way out there points on the map, and then you save it. Then you can see it on the map! Pretty cool. Even cooler, for the true map lover in us all, it will generate a topographic map of the area with the trail drawn on it, just click on the left where it says, “Print Trail Map.” How cool is that?

OK, I just uploaded our Ponytail Falls hike too.

Still Waiting for a cousin to be born

Aunt Melinda is still pregnant as far as we know and we are getting anxious for her new little boy to be born. Isaac has made sure I know that we can’t go visit her when she has her baby until he gets home from school. No sneaking off without him or him skipping. He won’t have it.

Melinda is due today. I have heard some interesting ways to send yourself into labor and passed them on. She has been saying that she is ready to be done for a few weeks now. I guess no tricks have worked yet for her. Any new ideas?

4 months and growing

Well, Reece made it to 4 months old despite the near death experiences inflicted by his older brothers. They still get a little too cozy when they cuddle with him and their rough housing makes me flinch when they almost trample the baby. But hey- he’s still alive. And he adores his big brothers.

So we took him to his 4 month well-baby check up and for all interested he is 14 lbs and 26 1/2” long. For weight he is 25 th percentile, for length he is 90th. Anyone who looks at him always comments on how long and skinny he is. For the record, he has already grown out of many of his 3 to 6 month clothes and some of the 12 month clothes are even just barely long enough. I predict he will be tall. Very tall. Not Andre’ the Giant tall. But tall enough that he won’t be able to wear many hand-me-downs.

Proof That Our Boys Love Each Other

Years ago, a little play tent was given to us by Aunt Melinda for a Christmas present. The base is only about three feet by three feet when the tent is set up, and there is no floor. The boys have often expressed a desire to sleep in it at night, and we have always said, no. This last week, after we had put them to bed, they snuck out of their beds, set up the tent and got in it. When we peeked in to check on them we saw a tent with two inert sets of feet poking out of it in the middle of their floor. Out of curiosity we lifted the tent up to see inside. There were Micah and Isaac, sharing the same pillow, snuggled up next to each other, sound asleep. We couldn’t take a picture because we know Micah isn’t a very sound sleeper. But it was so cute.

When we checked on them in the morning, they were sleeping in their beds, and the tent wasn’t even out anymore. Isaac said that they set it up and they had had to share the same pillow because their wasn’t enough room for two, and it was kind of “squishy” in there (they were pretty grumpy the next day too). To me this is proof that they really do love each other, because there they were sharing a pillow that they had nearly fought to the death over in the past.

What I've Been Working On

HP publicly announced the technology that my group works on. Here’s the HP website:

HP Edgeline Technology

The video is particularly cool. Here’s one of the first articles about Edgeline in the press:
